SQUADRON LOSES FORMER COMMANDER
COLOR GUARD PROVIDES OPENING CEREMONY FOR STATE BMX CHAMPIONSHIPS
On 7 Sep 08 the NHCS Color Guard consisting of Cadet Tomas, Cadet Luitermoza and Cadet Pilbro presented the American Flag for the opening ceremonies of the Connecticut State BMX State Championship. The mother of another cadet, Mrs. Mindy Delisle, sang a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem, as other members of the squadron looked on from the side. The squadron also did some recruitment for squadrons around the State.
CADET Tomas Attends NER Cadet Academy.
Cadet T/SGT George Tomas attended the NER Cadet Academy and completed his basic encampment requirement. Seen above as a member of Bravo Flight. Attendees were able to go to Basic Encampment, a Region Leadership School, Honor Guard School and NCO Academy. Members also participated in C-130 flights, Coast Guard and Army Blackhawk flights and weapons familiarization training. NESA ANOTHER SUCCESS!
Lt. Col Rowen and Cadet Chris Racenet attended the National Emergency Services Academy for two weeks at the end of July and into August. Cadet Racenet came away with his Emergency Services Award and his Ground Team Basic badge after completing both the basic and advanced ground team schools.
Lt. Col. Rowen worked as an instructor for the Incident Command Staff School (ICSS), both basic and advanced. There were over 400 people attending this years academy. Lt. Col. Rowen said that besides the long drive to Indiana it was fantastic! Cadet Racenet wants to go back next year also to attend other schools.
WWII AIRSHOW A "HOT" SUCCESS!
Members of NWHCS assisted Squadron 811 of the Pennsylvania Wing at Reading Regional Airport with the Mid Atlantic Air Museum's annual airshow. Members assisted with flight line security and parking in 18 different parking lots even with temperatures soaring to around 100 degrees. And you thought the Harwinton Fair was hard! Approximately 150 CAP members attended the event from Maryland, Connecticut and Pennsylvania in the three day event. More pictures are posted in the photo section.
TORRINGTON MEMORIAL DAY PARADE
Members of the squadron marched on 24 May 2008 in the Memorial Day Parade held by the City of Torrington along with numerous other groups and bands. It was a beautiful day for the event and all went well. Click here for more photos.
RI ENCAMPMENT GRADUATES 8 OF NW HILLS CADETS!
8 members of the squadron graduated Saturday from the Rhode Island Wing Basic Encampment held at Camp Varnum, RI during the past week. From left to right are Cadet Jasmin, Cadet Ehmke, Cadet Pilbro, Cadet Racenet, Cadet Buyak, Cadet Balthazar Cadet Luitermoza and Cadet Miville. Cadet Bathazar and Cadet Miville were members of Alpha Flight which took honor flight for the encampment. Congratulations to all! Go to the photo section for more images.
COLONEL BRIAN DUFFY, NASA ASTRONAUT VISITS NEAM.
NASA Astronaut and USAF Colonel Brian Duffy visited the New England Air Museum for their annual Space Expo on 30 Mar 08. Seen here in the center posing with CT Wing members from the Torrington, Danbury, Hartford and New Haven squadrons at the conclusion of events for the day. CTWG CAP provided assistance to the museum by parking cars and manning displays throughout the facility. Colonel Duffy has flown four times on shuttle missions, twice as the pilot and twice as the commander.
C/2ND LT. PARSONS JOINS CT ARMY NATIONAL GUARD
C/2nd Lt. Parson has made a big leap in his life and signed up for the Connecticut Army National Guard last Thursday. Lt. Parsons will be specializing in Information Technology when he finishes Basic Training and Fort Jackson, SC. His AIT (Advanced Individualized Training) will be at Fort Gordon, GA. Because of Lt. Parsons guard status he will be able to maintain his cadet status in CAP until he turns 21 years old and will stay a valuable asset to the squadron. Good luck! Jakob!
C/2ND LT. NEVILLE MAKES BIG MOVE IN CADET PROGRAM
Cadet Zachary Neville was promoted to the new rank of Cadet 2nd Lieutenant and given the General Billy Mitchell award by National Headquarters for completion of Phase 2 of the cadet program. Photos of the event can be viewed by clicking here.
